This inspiring praise hymn, one of the most popular of all time, remains a tribute, not only to the faithfulness and provision of God, but God’s extraordinary use of the most ordinary people. Thomas Chisholm was an insurance salesman, and an unhealthy one at that. When he was seventy-five he wrote, “My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years which has followed me on until now. Although I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and that He has given me wonderful displays of His providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.”

He spent his life selling life insurance and submitting poetry to Christian magazines. Some were rejected, some accepted and none ever gave him much money. Yet this humble artist eventually penned some of the greatest lyrics in hymn history and his song, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, is certain to be sung throughout the world for decades upon decades to come. Indeed, God is faithful!

God has clearly demonstrated His faithfulness and we do know that He is ever faithful to us. This wondrous fact gives us ample reason to praise Him, though circumstances may go against us.

Great is Thy Faithfulness, O God my Father!
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not - Thy compassions, they fail not:
As Thou has been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy Faithfulness! Great is Thy Faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand have provided-
Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and Harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with us all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

The Holy Bible

One of the greatest miracles of the Bible is its unity.

Please ponder the following amazing facts: The 66 books of the Bible were written:
On three continents
In three languages
By about 40 different people (kings, shepherds, scientists, attorneys, an army general, fisherman, priests and a physician)
Over a period of of about 1,500 years
On the most controversial subjects
By people who, in most cases had never met
By authors whose education and background varied greatly

Yet, though it seems totally inconceivable, the 66 books maintain harmony with each other
Often new concepts on a subject are expressed, but these concepts do not undermine what other Bible writers say on the same subject

Ask people who have viewed an identical event to each give a report of what happened. They will differ widely and will vrtually always contradict each other in some way. Yet the Bible, penned by 40 writers over a 1500-year period, reads as if written by one great mind. And, indeed, it was: "Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:21. The Holy Spirit moved them all.

Heavenly Father, as I enter this place, I bring Your presence with me. I speak Your peace, Your grace and Your perfect order into the atmosphere of this place. I acknowledge Your Lordship over all that will be spoken, thought, decided, and accomplished within these walls.

Gracious Loving Father, I thank you for the gifts You have deposited in me. I do not take them lightly, but commit to using them responsibly and well. Give me a fresh supply for truth and beauty on which to draw as I do my job. Anoint my creativity, my ideas, and my energy so that even my smallest task may bring you honor.

Lord, when I am confused, please guide me. When I am weary, energize me. Lord, when I am burned out, infuse me with the light of Your Holy Spirit. May the work that I do and the way that I do it, bring hope, life, and courage to all that I come in contact with today and everyday, And, Oh Lord, even in this day's most stressful moments... may I rest in You.

In Jesus' strong and powerful name, I pray. Amen.
